What's going on
St. Augustine South has two boat ramps. That's a wonderful thing for a neighborhood to have. But those ramps are open to everyone, and word has gotten around.
On a nice weekend, trucks with trailers come in from all over St. Johns County. They line up on our streets. They park on side streets, on grass, in front of driveways. They back up and turn around on roads that were built for a few cars a day, not a boat launch.
The result is more traffic, more noise, and more fender benders on streets where kids ride bikes.
What we're for
- Ramps for residents. We will push the county to limit the two ramps to people who live in St. Augustine South. A simple sticker or permit would do it.
- Parking that fits the neighborhood. No more trailers on lawns and side streets.
- Boat ramps that feel like ours again. A place to launch a kayak on a Sunday morning without waiting behind a line of trucks.
Why it matters
This isn't about keeping people out. Plenty of public ramps exist around the county. It's about what a small residential neighborhood can handle. Two ramps, open to everyone, in a place with narrow streets and no real parking is a recipe for exactly what we see now.
